Bejeweled 3

Popcap became famous with their first title Bejeweled, which went on to sell over 25 million copies and millions more played the free flash versions of the game.
Now the newest version of Bejeweled is available for PC and after testing it on the Exo PC, I am happy to report that it plays excellent on Tablet PC’s.
Bejeweled always was great on Touchscreen devices, as one of the first successful iTunes games, the bigger question was if this new graphically superior version would even boot, but that turned out to be no problem. The game was perfectly playable without any lag in the gameplay, the graphics start to stutter in huge explosions and between levels, where you warp along a 3D Tunnel into the next field, but that doesn’t influence gameplay in the slightest.

The game itself is your typical match 3 game, combine 3 colored stones to erase them. The clue comes from combining more then 3 stones, if you combine 4, you get a explosive stone that will blow up surrounding stones if you erase it. If you manage to combine 5 stones, a black box appears, that will erase all stones of a color on the field, if you switch the position of a surrounding stone with it. If you manage to erase two crossing lines at once, you get a Bomberman like cross bomb, that will destroy all stones vertically and horizontally when you erase it.

With these stones you try to get huge combos, often times you’ll save these powerful stones to get you out of hopeless situations. The game is over when no more combinations are possible. To find the combinations, you can use a help button that will mark a stone you can move to combine. This is usually not the best method, so you should just use it, if you can’t spot a combination yourself, even if I can see no penalty for using it.

Besides the standard gameplay method, there are also variations of the gameplay, that will keep you busy for a long time. Besides an adventure mode, where you play variations of the game until you reach a certain goal, there is also a Zen mode and a lightning mode, if you play these for a while, you will also unlock hidden modes like the Poker mode or the butterfly mode, that range from mild variations of the gameplay to total conversions.

Bejeweled 3 is probably the most advanced match 3 game I’ve seen yet on Windows with touch input, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it to you.
It is available for 19,95€ from Gamesload (please use our sponsored banner link if you are interested, thanks!) or you can play it in the Gamesload Flatrate:
